Estee Lauder Cos. says it has made progress on its internal anti-racism work and still has further to go, after a year since it aimed to work towards diversity in its workforce.

The cosmetic giant also said it has taught a racial bias class to 94 per cent of its US corporate and field employees and over the next fiscal year will be rolling out similar trainings worldwide, reported Bloomberg.

An increase of 9.2 per cent in new US roles filled by Black candidates has also been reported by the company in the year through June 2021 which is up by 3 percentage points year on year.

“One year ago, we came together for some of the most pivotal discussions in our company’s history regarding race,” Chairman William Lauder and Chief Executive Officer Fabrizio Freda said in the memo to employees Tuesday morning.

“The movement in the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder in May 2020 sparked a deeper and needed conversation.”

Other companies such as Ulta Beauty Inc. and Sephora which are two one of world’s largest specialty beauty retailers have also pledged to work strictly on staff bias and to sell more Black-owned brands.
