Toyota Motor Corp. will focus on making its global factories carbon neutral by 2035, said a senior executive on Friday.

Masamichi Okada, chief production officer of Toyota, said the company will start with introducing new technologies for painting, coating, casting and similar processes.

"In this way, the processes that have high generation of CO2 will be focused on to reduce as much as possible, or even eliminate CO2 emissions," Okada told an online media briefing, reported Reuters.

"By identifying these areas, we will focus our resources and we believe that will contribute to shorten the time until we can achieve carbon neutrality," he said.

He also said that Toyota will also think about using renewable energy for onsite and offsite power.

German luxury automaker BMW said that its factories in China are working towards reaching carbon emissions neutrality by the end of this year.

Similarly, Ford plans to use renewable energy for its plants by 2035.

Okada said to the company aims to have to variety of options to achieve carbon neutrality including working with multiple types of models for EVs and assemble them simultaneously.

"We're going to utilise our experience and knowledge that we have gained through the years," he said.
