Cyberspace
Administration of China (CAC) is monitoring several internet platforms for
allowing “soft child porn” emoji stickers to spread on their platforms and
using "sexually suggestive underage" short videos to attract audience.
CAC said in a statement that internet platforms such as
Tencent's messaging app QQ, e-commerce platform Taobao run by Alibaba, short
video app Kuaishou, social media platform Weibo and social e-commercial app
Xiaohongshu, were recently asked to correct the problems, purge relevant user
accounts, and were fined an undisclosed amount, reported ABS-CBN News.
Another crackdown to curb harmful content for underage
internet users is being launched in China, said CAC.
The crackdown would focus on issues including pornographic
and violent content on online education platforms, people flaunting excessive
wealth on live streaming and short video platforms, and online fan groups that
induce minors to contribute money to their idols, according to ABS-CBN News.
China's state-run media outlets had previously exposed "soft
child porn stickers" on online platforms.
Pictures of children with sexually suggestive text on them
were used for these stickers and were then circulated, reported People’s Daily
in January.
CAC, in June, had said that it would work on stopping harmful
online fan club activities including publishing private information about an
individual.
