Huawei released on Thursday its new P50 smartphone line which does not support 5G as the tech giant is facing US sanctions and global chip shortage simultaneously.

The Chinese tech-giant is launching P50 model and P50 Pro (more expensive) in the P series which is known for its camera.

The camera has three lenses including a 50-megapixel large sensor, a 40MP monochrome lens and a 13MP super-wide angle lens.

The models released by Huawei do not support 5G is a clear sign of trade curbs imposed by US President Donald Trump affecting the tech giant.

Washington imposed restrictions on foreign manufacturers using US technology last year to only sell semiconductors to Huawei after getting a license.

Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business group, had earlier warned of running out of chips.

“Our products still maintain the ultimate performance,” Yu said Thursday. “Only a very small drop in speed will be experienced, almost negligible.”

“Huawei is a global leader in 5G technology and in communication technology,” he added. “Because of the four rounds of U.S. restrictions over the past two years or so, 5G phones are beyond our reach and we have to go with 4G.”

Huawei P50 starts at 4,488 Chinese yuan, or $695, and P50 Pro starts at 5,988 yuan, or $927.
