Cigna Corp
said on Thursday it would start selling health insurance plans by the
Affordable Care Act (ACA), or Obamacare, on online marketplaces in three new
U.S. states and 93 new counties.
The company
will sell individual and family plans in Georgia, Mississippi and Pennsylvania
and counties in Arizona, Florida and Virginia using individual exchanges.
CVS Health
Corp, in February, had said that it again start selling individual health
insurance plans on online marketplaces considering stability in the market.
Aetna
insurance unit of CVS Health and some other health insurers including
UnitedHealth Group Inc had ceased using online exchanges in 2017 and 2018, as
Republicans targeted the law by former U.S. President Barack Obama.
The U.S.
Supreme Court, though, had rejected the bid of Republicans in June, thus not
affecting the healthcare law.
Cigna said
that it expects to reach about 1.5 million additional customers through the
online marketplaces.
Customers
will be given free virtual health screenings with doctors enrolled under the
ACA through MDLive, Cigna’s telehealth provider.
Cigna
manages insurance plans for big companies and sells health plans on government
exchanges.
