Hundreds of representatives of global civil society walked out of the convention center in Glasgow, wearing red ribbons in protest, on the final morning of the COP26 Climate Summit.

Activists were expressing their frustration at the lack of results from the UN conference on its final day.

The Guardian reported that indigenous activist Ta’Kaiya Blaney of the Tla A’min Nation told the meeting before the walkout, “COP26 is a performance. It is an illusion constructed to save the capitalist economy rooted in resource extraction and colonialism. I didn’t come here to fix the agenda – I came here to disrupt it.”

Protestors claimed that the summit was falling far short of what is necessary to combat climate change. Following a "People's Plenary" session in one of the main halls organized by the COP26 Coalition, activists from around the world marched through the venue with a group of indigenous activists leading the procession.

The protestors slammed the organizers' claims of the COP26 being inclusive saying that the voices of the most affected by climate change were present outside the conference hall.

BBC quoted Sarah, a 29-year-old Extinction Rebellion activist from Glasgow. She said, “COP has essentially been a giant trade show in which the fossil fuel executives have a bigger presence than delegates from countries most affected by climate change.

“It has shown that leaders, such as our government, are content to let people suffer and let people die rather than take the action that is required”, she added.

The campaigners exited the secured area chanting “climate justice now” and “power to the people”. They were greeted by activists outside the gates holding Extinction Rebellion flags.

The rally included representatives of farmers, Indigenous people, youth, women, academics, trade unions, and environmental NGOs. The red ribbons represented the red lines crossed by negotiators.
