Segregating the real from the fake

Skepticism surrounding the authenticity of NFTs as profile pictures on Twitter has prevented users from putting up a digital piece of art as their profile picture, but with its new application, Twitter has released an official verification mechanism for NFT profile pictures.

Users can now link their Ethereum wallet to their Twitter account, and can then choose an NFT as a profile picture from a list of NFTs they own. The profile picture, which is typically enclosed within a circle, will get a hexagonal border.

In case anyone tries to use that NFT as their profile picture without first buying the token, the image will have the classic circle frame.

Till now, NFT verification is only available for Ethereum-based NFTs. CoinDesk reported that this is the “first iteration” of a feature that may go on to support other blockchains.

Other users can tap on the hexagonal pictures to see more information about the digital pieces of art.
