The final arguments of Apple Inc. and Epic Games Inc. began on Monday to decide if Apple opts for anti-competition practices which in turn hurts third-party software developers.

US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers will rule on the case where Epic Games claim that the iPhone maker chargers app developers a commission as high as 30 per cent.

Gary Bornstein, an Epic lawyer said, “The issue here is the monopoly that they have on the distribution of apps onto that platform. There is no path onto that platform, other than the one that they control that has led to decreased innovation and higher prices.”

On the other hand, Apple denies the claim of being a monopoly and said that the rules around the app store make sure the safety and reliability of apps for users.

Judge Rogers had asked the involved parties to prepare debate-style end to the trial rather than the usual and traditional closing arguments.

The case has lasted for more than three weeks in Oakland, Calif.

The judge had earlier given both sides a list of topics she wanted to focus on and discussed about in the court. She also instructed them to be prepared to talk about potential remedies.

“I will let you all drive the conversation,” Judge Gonzalez Rogers told the lawyers on Friday, reported WSJ. “I will push you faster through topics which are of less concern, and I will spend more time with you on things that are, you know, that I’m debating right now.”
