At least 29,000 websites appear to be inaccessible as a result of a massive Domain Name System (DNS) malfunction. A massive outage has affected many applications and websites.

PlayStation Network, HBO Max, Amazon, FedEx, Zomato, Airbnb, Delta Air Lines, Capital One, and McDonald's are just a handful of the popular websites and apps that have been affected.

Akamai Technologies, a content distribution network that helps data travel across the internet, linked to the widespread outage, issued a notice about the "Edge DNS" service fault, citing a "partial outage" on its website and said that it was investigating the matter.

“We are aware of an emerging issue with the Edge DNS service. We are actively investigating the issue,” the company released a statement.

The Domain Name System functions similarly to a phone book for websites. When individuals try to access specific websites, the technology determines which IP addresses to use. Akamai's Edge DNS solution does this job for applications and websites while also protecting against distributed denial-of-service, or DDoS, attacks.

According to the outage tracking website Downdetector, 4,000 users reported problems with Airbnb's website, while around 1,800 Home Depot customers experienced problems, Reuters reported.

Websites are not loading and displaying domain name system (DNS) service problems.

Around 1:20 p.m. ET, a lot of the impacted websites and services are back online, but many others are not working like FedEx.com and or Dominos.com.
